"Commencement ceremonies serve as a milestone for students in our school communities. They reflect more than a decade of hard work and achievement. They also represent the commitment of our educators and staff, who serve students daily and play a pivotal role in supporting our next generation of college and career-ready students.
Last year, our graduation committee discussed our graduation gown colors, specifically the student gown colors. The committee desired to remove unnecessary distinctions between our students and promote a sense of shared celebration among all students, thus the committee decided to move forward this year by having all students wear a purple graduation gown with a gold sash.
Beginning in May, students participating in commencement ceremonies will wear a singular color. We believe every student should be honored in an environment where they feel respected, accepted, and part of a collective celebration of their accomplishments. This decision was also shared with staff and students, with positive responses, as well as the school board during the August 2023 board meeting."
