“2024–25 FAFSA Issue Alerts: Open Issues and Workarounds — As counselors and students are aware, there are still technical issues within the FAFSA system, preventing numerous applicants from completing the form. Callers to the hotline have encountered hours-long hold times, and many report being disconnected without warning. Reaching a human being may not help since so many issues remain unresolved. For now, the only option that may provide a quick answer is the U.S. ED’s full list of open issues and workarounds at https://fsapartners.ed.gov/knowledge-center/topics/fafsa-simplification-information/2024-25-fafsa-issue-alerts. Users must click on an open issue to expand it and see the suggested workaround. Not all open issues have workarounds presently. Any resolved issues are also posted, underneath the open list.” Received and posted 2/15/24 11:00 AM PST
Bullfrogs and Parent/Guardians,
I regret to inform you that tonight's FAFSA Workshop has been canceled. We apologize for the inconvenience. In lieu of the workshop, below is helpful information from the Motherlode Educational Opportunity Center (MEOC).
- Sherryl Godfrey, academic/college/career counselor
"Dear High School Seniors/incoming college Freshman and Parents, Attached is a customized flier about the scope of services Motherlode Educational Opportunity Center (MEOC) provides to our local community through a grant from the federal Department of Education. MEOC can assist any prospective college student seeking information…not just Columbia-bound…especially during the summer when you no longer have access to high school professionals. Our goal is to answer questions, individually walk students through the maze of college transition challenges that they may be struggling with, and most importantly help keep them energized about their goals to start college this Fall!
The MEOC website link has lots of pertinent information for students and their families such as: FAQ's, Parent Information, and other helpful College Success information. All MEOC staff have several ways to communicate with those needing support now & over the summer via email, phone, (1) Submit a MEOC application (2) Schedule and appointment with Tira Lawhorn or Glenn Machovsky.
