Student of the Month May 2024 image

Congratulations to Bret Harte Students of the Month for May, Megan Scott and Ian Bauer, who were honored at the Angels-Murphys Rotary BBQ yesterday May 23. The following information was shared about Megan and Ian.

Megan Scott: “Megan can never be accused of being a wallflower, and many teachers vouch that her willingness to speak out and her knack for detail makes her a valued participant in class. In school, Megan has been involved with Circle of Friends, CSF, Spanish Honors Society, Forestry & Outdoor Science Club, and Academic Decathlon. Outside school, Megan has been involved with garbage cleanup along the Tuolumne River and volunteered as an AMA umpire. Megan has represented Bret Harte in golf, and especially softball, her passion. She has played every position in that sport; Her favorite spot is 3rd base. Her Least favorite: right field. Megan will be attending Cal Poly SLO where she will major in environmental engineering. Upon graduating, she plans to make a difference in combatting the ocean plastic problem. We can count on Megan contributing to whatever solution is found to this or any other problem she tackles.”

Ian Bauer: “Behind Ian’s polite, honest, and soft-spoken demeanor, therein lies a man with no fear. There is no other way to describe how one is inspired to use a long fiberglass pole to project one above several times one’s height and falls safely into a narrow pit. Yet somehow, being inspired from watching Olympic athletes compete in pole vault, Ian decided he must join this camaraderie of rarified air. For four years, Ian has represented Bret Harte on its track & field team, achieving a personal record in this event with a mark of 15 foot. Long-term commitment is no stranger to Ian, as he has also made four-year sojourns in both FFA and Fellowship of Christian Athletes Ian will be attending Modesto Junior College to major in diesel mechanics. Upon completion, Ian will start his career in the same. You can bet that Ian will approach his career with the same focus, technical skills, and even temperament which he has demonstrated as a Bullfrog.”
