Congratulations to the Students of the Month for October, Aniela Grycel and Jefferson Porras, who were honored at the Angels-Murphys Rotary luncheon today October 10. The following information was shared about Aniela and Jefferson.
“If you ask student of the month recipients if they are doing too much, they will typically say, ‘No.’ Evidence suggests otherwise. Such is the case with this month’s honorees…
Aniela Grycel: Aniela’s contributions and activities would overflow a college application. She has represented Bret Harte in water Polo, golf, volleyball, and is entering her fourth year of soccer and track. At school she has participated as member of Circle of Friends, Christians on Campus, Fellowship of Christian Athletes. This year Aniela represents her school as Student Rep at the Bret Harte [Governing Board]. She has also participated in welcoming students at frosh orientation and 8th grade Expo. Aniela has also helped set up Dinner with a Scientist, Breaking Down the Walls, and participated in the Rotary Youth Leadership Camp. Within the community, she has been active in her church’s youth group, helped counsel middle school students at Bear Valley, and catered events such as the [Bret Harte Athletic Hall of Fame.] Aniela will be applying at Pacific Azusa, Simpson, UCSB, Cal Baptist, and her top choice Jessup, where she will major in education. She plans to use her multiple-subject credential to become an elementary school teacher. Aniela ran hurdles in track, and analogous to her approach in life, she does not let the height of an obstacle persuade her to change her goals.
Jefferson Porras: Jefferson is a man who recognizes opportunity and the chances of growth. He is recognized as a polite and positive individual on campus, and can be seen as a leader in the cheering section for Bret Harte sports. He is a member of the medical science program in San Andreas and is therefore dually enrolled to Bret Harte and Calaveras. While at Bret Harte, Jefferson has represented the Bullfrogs in football and golf, and helped promote school activities while in the Leadership program. He has also been active in the school’s culinary program. Within the community, Jefferson has helped with the Rotary Shrimp Feed, the Michelson School dance, and working with the 7th graders at Bear Valley. He also has supported food drives and other community services. After graduation, Jefferson will enroll at Columbia or Delta College followed by transfer to Sacramento State University completing a four-year nursing program to prepare him or a career in medicine. Jefferson has also been a participant with the Rotary Youth Leadership camp. He recognizes how this opportunity has motivated him to keep doing things that help people, and he wishes to sincerely thank Rotary for giving him this opportunity. It is not a stretch to extrapolate to see how Jefferson and Aniela are both on a path to serve and promote people around them.”
