Students of the Month Jakob Bouma and Ella Becker promo image

Congratulations to the Students of the Month for January, Jakob Bouma and Ella Becker, who were honored at the Angels-Murphys Rotary luncheon Thursday, January 16 in Murphys. The following information was shared about Jakob and Ella.

Jakob Bouma: “Many selectees for SOM do not direct attention to themselves, but their absence would somehow be noticeable. Jakob is one of those students. Jakob has represented Bret Harte proudly in basketball, golf, and a key player on a championship water polo team. This spring, he will multi-task several events on the track team. He has been a member of California Scholastic Federation, FFA, and FCA. During the summer he has volunteered many hours teaching basketball skills at the Bret Harte clinic. Jakob has been accepted to Clemson University where he will major in agricultural mechanization for business. He would enjoy a career where he makes his impact by designing farm equipment. His self-sufficiency ensures he starts each day right with his morning cooking skills which will pay off when he moves out of dorms in college. While he does not seek the spotlight, Jakob is confident as both a team player or individual worker."

Ella Becker: “Ella somehow keeps her plate full when it comes to activities and leadership, and always seems to ask for more. Ella competes fiercely on both the soccer and track team, and is an active member of FFA, 4H, California Scholastic Federation, Academic Decathlon, FCA, Leadership, Renaissance, and is currently the senior treasurer. She has also been selected to represent Bret Harte at Girls State. Within the community, Ella has been part of the Murphy’s Christmas street faire, the Copper Town Square Tree Cutting, the BOAC food drive and the BOAC landscaping/painting, and serving culinary dishes at private events. Ella’s dream schools include UC Santa Barbara, and Cal Poly Pomona where she plans to major in Architecture or Interior Design. Her career path is to work in architecture or creative spaces has been verified through her job-shadowing with Aspen Street Architecture. In her limited spare time, Ella hones her architecture skills with art.”
